I had no idea that the persons in charge of the ships or vessels caught carrying illegal Chinese immigrants were subject to punishment as well, but of course that would only make sense. In order to impede Chinese migration they must also impose laws and consequences on any form of their transportation to the US. I never thought about it. In retrospect, this is still the case in current day illegal immigration or "trafficking."
I have to admit though, I do have some questions about the very last section: "SEC.15. That the words “Chinese laborers”, wherever used in this act shall be construed to mean both skilled and unskilled laborers and Chinese employed in mining."
I'm wondering how this was relevant to this law but then again, it just makes for more material to research.
