EASTERN EUROPEAN IMMIGRANTS IN THE UNITED STATES

In Chapter 8 we learned about the Eastern European  Jewish immigrants. This article provides background with how many Eastern European Jews came to the United States. It states Of all Jewish immigrants to the United States from 1886 to 1914, forty-four percent were women. Women who immigrated to America from Eastern Europe discovered their lives stamped by the economic, social, and cultural impact of their migration. I liked this article, because it talks about women.

American culture

The American culture is a diverse mix of customs and traditions from nearly every region of the world. In today's society a girl's life is influenced by her culture and society. The German women were able to easily adapt to the American culture, because they were able to pick up on the American fashion. Now a days, girls are influenced by the media. The media tells girls what they should wear, what they should look like, and what they should do. Girls are so influenced on how they live their lives according to what the media does. It has become such a negative influence, because now a days girls think that they have to be skinny in order to look pretty. Instead of feeling comfortable with their own body. Girls are following the trends of stars who are ruining their lives with drugs, alcohol, and much more. Immigrants are able to adapt to the American culture so fast, because they watch what's on tv and think thats how they should act.

Huguenot immigration

In chapter 4 it talks about a group of French people who came in the refugee migration of the 1680s and after. The people were known as the Huguenots and only two thousands came by 1700 and only a few hundred after that. I have never heard of this group before, so I was curious to find out a little more about them.  These two articles give off great history about the Huguenot immigration to America. The Huguenots were French Protestants and they were unwelcome in the Catholic France. These articles talk about their desire for greater freedom religiously and politically. I was able to gain a lot of new insight about this group that I never heard of before.

The role of women in slaves communities

http://www3.gettysburg.edu/~tshannon/hist106web/Slave%20Communities/atlantic_world/gender.htm
Understanding the role of women in slavery is an important part of history that is hardly mentioned in textbooks. Women slaves played a key role in the development of slave communities through the development of African SexualityFamily Structure and Economic Productivity. This article provides a great amount of detail on how women slaves were looked at during that time period. It is amazing to read about how belittled women slaves were. People looked down upon them so much and only looked as them for someone who should reproduce. They were looked at as unmoral and only seen as a "sex drive."
